A Word About Professional PetSitting:

This is a profession much like any other, and also very unique in its own way. A Professional PetSitter is usually somebody in this business because of their love for animals. Most Sitters will attempt to do all that is feasible within reason as far as being reimbursed for services rendered. However, this is a job where commitment, reliability and trust is extremely important, since a 'Stranger' will be with the most cherished parts in your home. Usually you get what you pay for.

Unfortunately, many people fail to understand that this profession has its professional standards to follow.  A Professional PetSitter is expected to follow the local laws and ordinances regarding Licensing etc. The Sitter should also be expected to be Insured and Bonded.  This last is a reference to differentiate between the neighbor down the street helping out and the Professional. That neighbor or a kid close by may be a good alternative if you, the Owner, find that the fees are too high. But keep in mind, somebody who is not a Professional may not be covered/held liable/know what to do in case of accident or emergency. It is difficult for a Professional PetSitter with a fully booked calender to "cut a deal", since other clients may have to be turned away. This is especially warranted for those Holday times, when the day never seem to have enough hours.
If you don't fully know what it is you need for your pet because you never have been away from him or her without having had a friend helping out.  Try to figure out what is the best option for YOUR animal companion. Some people want to have the Sitter stay Overnight, and since this is a time limiting service, it obviously will cost a bit more.  Usually the Overnights get booked some time in advance, so if this is your desired option - plan ahead.  You can also try to compare the Overnight with 2-3 daily visits per day.

An Overnight Security Stay usually includes the minimum of two walks, so to put it in comparison to the Daily Dogwalks... the additional cost is due to the fact that the Sitter is away from her/his own home and family for hours and has to deal with the inconvenience of following up with business calls etc. on different terms. A professional is not someone who does this to have a place to live.

Finally, the two best reasons to have somebody stay/ or visit your home while you are away is that it gives a sense of added protection against potential burglaries. Your pets most often react best to the comfort of their own familiar surroundings, compared to that of a Kennel, especially during these stressful times when 'their humans' are away.  >^..^<
